Yoga is an ancient practice of exercise bringing balance to the body and mind. This is accomplished by a variety of postures or “asanas”. The different asanas and how they are performed is what makes up the different varieties of yoga practice.
Yoga will improve your strength and flexibility, balance and breath. Yoga also works on your body internally: improving blood flow, rejuvenating your organs, flushing toxins from your body. Your mind and body will be refreshed, and you will gain mental clarity and an overall sense of well-being.
Unlike Pilates, which incorporates a variety of movements flowing from one to another, yoga can use poses which are held for an extended time, stretching the body and using the mind to overcome physical obstacles.
Yoga should be practiced with an instructor who can encourage and nurture your practice, but also help you with the proper alignment and breath in your poses. Most importantly however, you should feel comfortable with your instructor and their training. Again, we encourage you to visit our studio, meet our instructors and find for yourself the high-quality instruction we offer.
