"My flexibility has always been poor - even when I was younger and spent two hours a day at the gym flexibility was not the focus. Sitting at a desk all day has made this worse. I wanted to try yoga because everything I ever read told me it was good for the body and mind. I sleep better; improved digestion. There are so many different levels you can achieve and practice and I feel good every time I leave a class. I have learned that I can heal a headache and calm my mind in order to give a presentation to our entire office with only my breath, thoughts and a few simple stretches. Did I mention it’s fun? I love the time I spend here. I am a little shy and the women I have met here, other students and the instructors and staff, are awesome. They are so friendly and accepting and the atmosphere here is warm and inviting. The studio is beautiful and well maintained and has a nice variety of workshops and menu items on the schedule that it remains interesting. I always look forward to the newsletter and every instructor offers unique methods of coaching and inspiration. It is a beautiful place to spend my time. Did I mention it’s fun?" --Janice Fulkerson

"I was practicing elsewhere and the convenient location attracted my notice but I stayed because of the caliber of teachers and physical quality of the studio. I really appreciate the teachers and their encouragement to let go of expectations, to bring awareness to each session, to appreciate whatever has been accomplished , and to continue the practice off the mat. The many different options in the schedule allow me to practice often and the supportive community that has evolved among the students, teachers and owner makes it a pleasure to practice at Powerhouse." --Becky Meadows

"My balance was going downhill and my tummy seemed huge. I wanted some form of exercise that would help; yoga and pilates was the answer! Now, I can do situps with no problem and take great pride in being able to improve my flexibility. It's been rewarding to see changes in my body. Clothes fit much nicer now. I love everyone who works at Powerhouse because they are accepting of what I brought through the door, encouraged me and made sure I exercise with safe movements. I have never been uncomfortable, even at my age! (I'm sure I'm the grandmother of grandmothers!) Thank goodness, age was no factor or I'd have been barred." --Carol Johnson

"I started coming to Powerhouse Yoga primarily to increase my flexibility which, as a runner, had been on a gradual decline over the years. What I got, and continue to get, is so much more! My flexibility, strength, balance, posture and body awareness have all improved measurably, and the sense of calm confidence I feel after a Vinyasa class lasts me all day. I love the connection and friendships I have made with my fellow yogis, and the laid back atmosphere of the studio." --Charles Bestard

"I was the person who skipped stretching in order to get my workout over with, but it started to catch up to me. After only a few months of consistent yoga practice I could reach further than ever before in my poses, and I find myself meeting practice goals sooner than expected. The joy and excitement of finding myself stronger and more flexible with each practice is exhilarating. There is a wonderful community of practitioners at Powerhouse Yoga that cheer us on when we try something new and teachers who recognize the strides we make in our practice." --Kimberly Walton

"Since coming to Powerhouse, I really have learned to step up my game. When I first saw the name Powerhouse, I was intimidated, thought it would be too much for me. But I have learned and accomplished so much since I have been a member. Every instructor has been wonderful, from a gentle class to a power class. They have taught me the class is as challenging as you want to make it, we are always learning, simple things are not always that simple, ask anyone who is trying to keep their focus or keep their mind from wandering in Savasana!" --Becky Kramer

"Powerhouse Yoga and Pilates Studio has a great staff and facilities. I started in October, 2009 doing Yoga classes and now I work with Katie on a weekly basis doing Pilates. I always had problems in traditional workouts that would leave me with neck and back pain. This is first time in over 10 years that I am in great shape and pain free. I highly recommend Powerhouse." --Teri Jones

"I started going to the gym as a way to kill time on my lunch hour. I figured it was better than going out to eat every day. The gym offered a noon/lunch hour yoga class and at a friend's urging I tried it. I LOVED it!!! For years my practice was on again, off again. Any time I strayed from a regular practice I just didn't feel right and found myself returning to yoga for a reset. I guess you could say yoga keeps me grounded. The teachers at Powerhouse are amazing! Truly. The enthusiasm and love for yoga they bring to the studio is contagious. No matter how I feel when I walk in the door I leave feeling renewed, energized and ready to face the day. That is a true gift!" --Maggie Younkin

"What a life changing experience Powerhouse has been for me. I needed to gain some flexibility (and some self confidence along the way) and meeting Katie turned out to be a real gift. I now go twice a week and have also taken a few lessons from Liz. Both Katie and Liz are very experienced and great at guiding your body into stretches that I could not have possibly done when I started this process. It is a lovely place to be and I look forward to going every time." --Gaylene Wallace

"I've been to every Pilates studio in the Colleyville/Southlake area, and this one is, by far, the best. The studio is new, clean and up-to-date. Every single instructor is amazing. I have been doing Pilates for almost 10 years and Katie is the best instructor I have had yet. The yoga classes are true to form and very challenging. Another huge plus is the childcare room where my boys can play while I "exercise Pilates" (as they like to call it). They can watch thru the window, and everyone is happy! LOVE THIS PLACE!" --Mandy Teodecki

"I have always been an active person, from playing sports in school to dancing for a ballet company. I started having really bad back problems last fall, and it got so bad that I could barely get out of bed. I had to have surgery on my lower back (for the second time in my 25 years). This was hard to deal with, so I started taking Pilates with Katie. She has helped me, in a matter of months, get back to normal activity. I feel stronger now than I did before my surgery, and I know as I continue I will gain more strength, flexibility and even more satisfaction with my life. Thank you Powerhouse for putting my life back together! I could not have done this alone!" --Natalie Anton

"From the very first class I knew Pilates was exactly what I needed. I've always had bad posture, and Pilates has changed my whole body. I have suggested Pilates to all of my friends and family. I just can't say enough about how it can help your health. I think it is the perfect thing to add to anyone's routine, whether you are already athletic or not."
--Jennifer St Clair

"I never have been a very physically active person – too clumsy for sports and too busy to get into a routine at the gym. I started Pilates after having back problems at work from sitting all day at my desk. Pilates helped correct my posture and for the first time I can touch my toes! After a long day of work, Pilates provides me a constructive outlet for stress and tension." --Emily Quillen

“It would be an understatement to say that up until now I have never totally embraced a regular exercise program. Previous attempts include a local fitness center where the “personal trainer” set up a program for me that was so far beyond my range that I made it through only two sessions before pulling a muscle. I lasted longer with a popular women’s center whose exercise routine is the same for everyone, but there I developed bursitis and tendonitis in my shoulder and had to go to physical therapy for relief. A diagnosis of osteopenia led me to Powerhouse, where I decided to sign up for private Pilates sessions. I have to admit I was initially wary of pulling a muscle or reigniting the shoulder problem, but Katie was and is so careful about monitoring my aches and pains and capabilities. Her knowledge of anatomy completely relaxed me, and I have surprised myself at how far I have come in such a short time. The day I knew that I had found a program that could be long-term was a Saturday when I dragged the vacuum cleaner upstairs to do some cleaning. The problem was my back. Vacuuming and mopping has always caused a debilitating pain in my lower back that would take from 2 to 3 days (and many Aleve) to disappear. As I plugged in the vacuum, I thought “why not use my core muscles to vacuum?” When I finished vacuuming I thought, “wow, there is absolutely no back pain, but the mopping still has to be done.” There was no back pain after the mopping, either – not that day or the next. It was a revelation to realize in a practical way how powerful core muscles really are. I’m still stiff when I get up in the morning, but I’m almost 68, and that’s to be expected. What I never expected was to seriously embrace an exercise program that has increased my strength, flexibility, and the activities I can engage in.” --Sandy Landry
